2023 Business Licenses

Attention: Lamar Businesses

Business License letters will be mailed the week of March 27, 2023.
The Business License Tax Year begins on May 1, 2023.

The SC Business License rates will be based on two factors:

  • Base rate (Determined by the type of business)  
  • Gross profit from the previous tax year (2022)

Ordinance 2023-01: Ordinance to adopt a revised Business License Ordinance

2022 Announcement & New Requirements:

The Town of Lamar, along with all municipalities in South Carolina, must now comply with the requirements of Act 176
For the 2022-2023 Business License year, all businesses will be on the same model as defined below.  A letter drafted by the Town of Lamar to merchants, may be accessed here.

All Businesses:

  • Your 2021-2022 Business License expires on April 30, 2022
  • Your 2022-2023 Business License will be due on May 1, 2022.  The Town is granting an additional 30 day pay period until May 31, 2022, before assessing a 5% per month penalty allowed by the business license ordinance.
  • For the 2022-2023 Business License year, all businesses will pay $100.00.  Additionally, businesses applying for a 2022-2023 Business License must provide proof of their gross income based on the prior calendar year (tax returns, letter from a CPA, itemization of services, etc.). Council intends to evaluate the information that is collected and beginning with the 2023-2024 Business License year, implement a standardized class schedule.

Please return the completed business license application along with your fee by May 16, 2022, and your new business license and paid receipt will be mailed to you.  You may also return your application and fee to Lamar Town Hall.
